Dylan is from Doncaster in South Yorkshire, one of the United Kingdom's most popular cities. Doncaster is known for the charm and beauty of its city centre, which attracts visitors from as far away as Mexborough. Donny is the birthplace of some of the world's greatest steam locomotives such as The Flying Scotsman (the first train to reach 100 mph) and the Mallard (the fastest steam locomotive ever built, reaching in excess of 200 kph). It's also the birthplace of Jeremy Clarkson, one of Britain's gobbiest TV presenters. Dylan did a degree in Chemical Engineering at Newcastle, graduating with a first class degree in 2024. He did his final year project with me, during which I was told that he did not think himself cut out for experimental research, did not want to do a PhD, and had some kind of antipathy towards microbiological systems. In the autumn of 2024 he started his PhD with me and Katarina Novakovic looking at the behaviour of microbes on coated surfaces. Clearly a gifted individual, he has also demonstrated a frightening talent for throwing axes. He does, however, know nothing about football. The less said, the better.
For those from outside the UK reading this, Doncaster is hardly a city known for its beauty. I don't want you buying hotel rooms there and being disappointed! It is responsible for the trains though. You might be familiar with Jeremy Clarkson from the TV programme Top Gear, which was sold to many countries. Finally, Dylan supports a football team that used to win a lot. But no longer. I cannot bring myself to type the name.
